Scope of Services

AIG provides independent certification and grading of natural diamonds, lab-grown diamonds, coloured gemstones, and jewellery. Optional services include photography, videography, and inscriptions.

Reports are based on the examination of the Article using AIG’s equipment, technology, and methods available at the time of inspection.

Reports are professional opinions, not guarantees of value, grade, colour, origin, or performance.

Implications for you: values fluctuate and opinions may differ between laboratories.

Submission of Articles

The Client warrants lawful ownership of all Articles submitted and that they are free from disputes or legal claims.

Articles must be securely packaged and accompanied by all required documentation.

AIG may refuse any Article at its discretion without giving reasons.

The Client bears all shipping risks until AIG receives the Article.

Service Process

Articles are logged, assigned an identification number, and stored securely.

Grading is conducted by qualified personnel using recognised gemmological practices.

Reports are delivered in the agreed format (physical or digital).

Completion times are estimates and not binding.

Fees & Payment

Fees are as per AIG’s current schedule or agreed in writing.

Applicable taxes are payable by the Client.

Payment is due upon completion of Services unless otherwise agreed.

Late payments attract 12% annual interest.

AIG holds a lien over all Articles until payment is received in full. Implications for you: Non-payment can delay the return of your Article.

Shipping & Risk

The Client bears all risk during shipping to AIG.

While in AIG’s custody, insurance cover is limited to Five (5) times the Service fee paid, subject to exclusions (war, terrorism, hidden defects, fraud). Implications for you:This is far less than full value—consider your own insurance.

Regulatory Compliance

AIG may hold, report, or refuse to return any Article suspected of being treated, synthetic, rough, misrepresented, or stolen, in compliance with applicable laws. Implications for you: This could delay return until investigations are complete.

Reports & Inscriptions

Reports are professional opinions based on examination at a specific time and may vary with different graders, equipment, or methods.

Reports are not appraisals or guarantees.

Inscriptions do not guarantee quality, origin, or authenticity and may be removed without altering the Article’s weight or measurements.

The Client is solely responsible for the legality of any requested non-AIG trademarks, brands, or symbols and must indemnify AIG against related claims.

Complaints, Liability & Warranty

Complaints

Upon return, the Client must inspect the Article immediately and notify AIG in writing within five (5) business days of any discrepancy, and before transferring it to a third party. Implications for you: Missing this deadline means losing your claim rights.

Complaints do not suspend payment obligations.

Liability

Except in cases of fraud or willful misconduct, AIG’s total liability is limited to the greater of:

  • (a) the amount paid by AIG’s insurer; or
  • (b) Five (5) times the Service fee for the Article concerned.

AIG is not liable for delays, loss, or damage caused by third parties involved in the process.

The Client indemnifies AIG against third-party claims arising from the Services.

Any claim must be made within five (5) days of discovery.

Warranty Disclaimer

AIG disclaims all express, implied, and statutory warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a purpose, and non-infringement.
